TATIANA TAUER

Harpist

Tatiana Tauer (Russian: Татьяна Лазаревна Тауэр) (Moscow, September 29, 1945 – Hilversum, July 27, 1994) was one of the greatest Russian harpists of the 20th century.

She began playing the harp at the age of four at the suggestion of her aunt, Sofia Tauer, who was the solo harpist at the Bolshoi Theatre in Moscow. She first studied at the Gnessin Music School with Professor Mark Rubin and later at the Moscow Conservatory with Professor Erdeli and the legendary harpist Professor Vera Dulova. From a young age, she performed concerts, and at the age of seventeen, she became the solo harpist of the Leningrad Philharmonic Orchestra under the direction of Yevgeny Mravinsky.

She performed recitals, both solo and with various orchestras, made countless radio, television, and audio recordings, and traveled the world. She gave masterclasses all over the globe, from the Netherlands to the United States and Japan. She taught at the Leningrad Conservatory and served as a jury member at various international harp competitions.

Tatjana Tauer passed away from cancer at the age of 48. She is survived by her husband and her daughter Anastasia Kozlova.

Numerous CD recordings of her performances exist; the last one, *Harp The Russian Way*, was recorded in Los Angeles, California. Memorial concerts are still held annually in her honor. Many interviews have been preserved, including her final one with the *World Harp Society Journal*.
